2 New Plays! 1 Act Each! 1 Night Only! Berkshire Playwrights Lab’s 2008 Season August 13th at 8:00 pm at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center
Great Barrington, MA — Wednesday, August 13th at 8:00 pm, at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, the Berkshire Playwrights Lab continues its premiere season of presenting staged readings with two new one-act plays: GOD & COUNTRY by the Berkshire Playwrights Lab co-Founder and co-Artistic Director Joe Cacaci and ASHES by Los Angeles playwright Edgar Lyall. Cacaci is currently finishing writing for a new film script; Lyall most recently wrote an episode for the new series “Army Wives.”
Directing the readings are veteran stage and television director, Matthew Penn (GOD & COUNTRY) and Cacaci (ASHES). Mr. Penn returns to the Berkshire Playwrights Lab, having directed at the opening benefit, before heading to New York to direct for the hit series Damages. GOD & COUNTRY will feature veteran character actor, Eddie Jones.
The Berkshire Playwrights Lab is also pleased to announce that Penn will be joining Cacaci, Jim Frangione and Bob Jaffe in overseeing the artistic directorship of the organization.
GOD & COUNTRY depicts a day in the lives of an Irish-American clan forced to confront a long hidden and very disturbing family revelation. ASHES contemplates a woman’s life after the death of her unfaithful husband when she starts a lusty affair with one of her students.
Co-Artistic Director Bob Jaffe says, “We had been looking for a play to match with ASHES, which was a long one-act. Joe presented us with the perfect companion piece.” Co-Artistic Director Jim Frangione adds, “The success of the one-acts in our benefit performance encouraged us to look at another evening in this form. These are two great stories.”
The Berkshire Playwrights Lab will feature a brief question and answer session with the playwrights and directors following the reading.
Admission is FREE and open to the public. Reservations are recommended.
The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center is located at 14 Castle Street, Great Barrington, MA. Tickets are available at the Box Office, 413-528-0100, and online.
