Barrington, MA — Wednesday, August 27th at 8:00 pm, at the Mahaiwe
Performing Arts Center, the Berkshire Playwrights Lab concludes its
premiere season of staged readings with AGAINST THE RISING SEA by Kelly Masterson. Masterson wrote the screenplay for the acclaimed film Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, which was directed by Sidney Lumet. Directing the reading is BPL co-Artistic Director Joe Cacaci.
The Berkshire Playwrights Lab is pleased to announce that this final reading will feature Tony award-winning actresses Elizabeth Franz (Death of a Salesman) and Frances Sternhagen (The Good Doctor, The Heiress). Also featured in the cast are Ylfa Edelstein and Andrea Cirie.
In AGAINST THE RISING SEA a long time couple's struggle with their uncertain future and elements of a troubled past event, comes full circle when their path collides with a younger version of themselves, in this funny and poignant piece, set in Provincetown.
Says Cacaci, “Kelly Masterson has a gift for character that ends up attracting both first rate actors and audiences alike. Ultimately, this play gets to the very heart of what keeps people together as a strong and loving couple, through whatever adversity they might encounter. As a director, one couldn't ask for more than that.”
The
Berkshire Playwrights Lab will feature a brief question and answer
session with the playwright and director following the reading.
